Round 6, Germany blitzed a tank and a mech infantry through Caucus and North Persia to get big oil reserve money. The Allied navy was defensively stronger due to the fleet coalition. Italy defended what it had and bottled up its navy in Rome on 95 to defend the homeland. The US entered the Med, followed by French ships, a Russian sub, and UK ships, and attacked Southern France from sea zone 93. Russia took back Bryansk on its turn and positioned itself for a big counter on Rostov. Round 5, Germany took Rostov and Bryansk to build a defensive block to the south. Italy continued to build up its naval force and infantry to start pushing units to the heavily defended North Africa on the next round. The US entered the war in the Atlantic and mobilized units to Gibraltar. Russia moved most of its units into Smolensk to prevent a Novgorod assault. Germany continued to move most of its units south east towards Ukraine. Round 4, Germany was able to take Ukraine with enough units to not be at risk of a counter. UK continued to fortify Egypt and moved towards North Africa with no Atlantic focus. Italy cleared the Med of all Allied ships and took Gibraltar to gain two National Objectives. Russian did move back from Ukraine to Bryansk to get attack pieces centralized to the north and south due to the proximity of the three German transports in range of Novgorod. Germany also moved its carrier into the Baltic Sea and moved six units into Baltic States in hopes to pull more Russian troops north to loosen the south. The East Poland German forces moved to Bessarabia to show its interest in Ukraine and to see if the Russian player would fully separate its force from Bryansk to hold Ukraine. Round 3, Germany recognized that Western Ukraine was a dead from Bryansk and Ukraine, so Germany used a few infantry and planes to regain Baltic States and Belarus to put a thin infantry line between East Poland. Russia took back Baltic States and Bessarabia on its turn. Russia began to fortify the north near Novgorod and formed a defensive line in Western Ukraine. Anzac and UK heavily fortified Egypt and UK started its focus on clearing the Ethiopian Italian troops and moving units north from South Africa and west from West India. Italy reorganized its navy in Rome to add a carrier to the fleet and repair the battleship. Round 2, Germany enacted war on the Russians and took out Bessarabia, East Poland, and Baltic States. The French moved their navy out of the Med to reorganize with a future UK fleet build up. Italy only lost its sub and damaged the battleship while destroying the UK Med fleet. Because of that, I recommended the Italian player hit that UK carrier division with everything in reach.

However, UK did take out the German battleship and landed in Greece to activate that pro Allied territory using sea zone 99.

As a result, Germany had a full air force and Italy had its navy.

UK made a critical mistake by not scrambling air craft on the German naval attacks or flying into the Mediterranean to take care of the Italian fleet. I think it gave me naval dominance early and it caused the UK to focus on Africa for several rounds and also they did a large defensive purchase for London.Д®xhibit 1 Game Purchases By Round Units Purchased I did change my round 1 purchase to the carrier and 2 transports, and I am glad I did. I also strafed Yugoslavia and setup in Romania for round 2. Round 1, my pre-war plan went pretty much as described for Germany. I wanted to keep going to see the outcome, but the 1940 Global game is not a one day affair, especially for all relatively new players to this version that had to learn new rules, political situations, and new tactics. Many of the players were ready to throw the towel in for the day.

We played for a solid 9 hours and we made it through 8 rounds of play. Overall, the Allies won the Pacific, and the Axis dominated the European map. I think there were a few key battles that I should have provided input to my Japanese teammate that may have swung the war. I regret not giving some focus or guidance in the Pacific. So there will not be much detail about what happened on that end of the map. My entire focus was on the European theater, and I did not get much time to discuss the Japanese strategy with my teammate or help in critical decisions in the Pacific.

We found a 7 th player to fill the spot, which means I will not go into Italian strategy in this post or series, but I will describe what happened overall in the European theater. So the game finally happened, and I played as Germany, but not as Italy.
